Maruti Suzuki continues to solidify its leadership as India’s largest car manufacturer. In 2025, despite a slight dip in urban sales, the company is pushing into new territory with aggressive rural outreach, safety upgrades, and its first big step into electric mobility. From affordable hatchbacks to premium SUVs, Maruti is reimagining its role in India’s mobility future. With a focus on producing four million units annually by 2030, and doubling down on Tier 2 and rural India, Maruti is eyeing its “next billion” customers to sustain long-term growth.
EV Ambitions Start with the e-Vitara SUV
Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first major electric vehicle the e-Vitara in early 2025. This marks a pivotal moment as the automaker transitions from petrol-dominated lineups to cleaner, greener options. The company is developing a dedicated EV platform in collaboration with Suzuki Global, with future models targeting both Indian and global markets. Battery technology, charging infrastructure, and cost competitiveness remain top focus areas as Maruti aims to democratize EV adoption across the middle class.
6-Airbags Now Standard: Safety Finally Takes Center Stage
In a much-welcomed move, Maruti has now equipped its popular models like Baleno, Ertiga, and Brezza with six airbags as standard. This upgrade, alongside Electronic Stability Control, Hill Hold Assist, and ISOFIX mounts, aligns Maruti’s portfolio with global safety norms. It’s a major turnaround from the past, where the company faced criticism for underwhelming crash ratings. The shift shows a clear intent to offer value without compromising safety, especially as competition heats up in the SUV and premium hatchback segments.
Sales Mix Shifts Toward SUVs and Premium Hatchbacks
With traditional small car sales on the decline due to tighter emission norms and rising costs, Maruti is pivoting towards SUVs and high-end hatchbacks. Models like the Fronx, Grand Vitara, and Brezza are witnessing strong demand. The HEARTECT platform continues to support light yet rigid builds, allowing fuel efficiency to remain a strength across segments. Maruti’s service network and resale value still remain its strongest USPs, making it the top choice for value-conscious buyers.
